Your mission style is pragmatist

Your ‘Show Me’ mission style makes you practical and down-to-earth. You are interested in seeing the difference Jesus makes in everyday life. At a party, you've already made the playlist and you're watching - do the speakers work? Has everyone got a drink in their hand? You're ready and willing to help make the community work. You're not afraid to get hands-on, and know how to involve other people to get the job done too, especially when it's serving a cause like showing others the love of God.

What are my strengths?

For you, the excitement of new ideas lies in checking to see that they work in practice. You see problems as challenges and will always be motivated by trying to find a solution, especially in something as important as helping people meet Jesus. You are often happy to do whatever is required to get a job done. You will act quickly and confidently to make sure things happen. You like to get on with things and discussions can set your mind whirring with ideas for solving problems. Your philosophy is along the lines of: "As long as it works, that's fine" - although you will also always be keen to find better ways of doing things. Your ‘Show Me’ instinct will be to closely follow instructions and procedures so it helps when there's a plan around how you share Jesus. Think your story through, write it out ahead of time. You come alive in discussions when there is a clear purpose and practical outcome that is being talked about. If others were to describe the way you work they would use words like 'diligent', 'hard-working' and 'thoughtful'. You learn best when there are clear tasks to get on with and you're able to measure your progress. You identify the most with Jesus when he is practically meeting a need.

Logic and reason are your guide; you will go for objectivity over opinions any day, especially on something as important as faith. You are rarely won over by smooth-talkers and sales pitches because you will want to know the facts and see the support for the claims being made. You are not afraid to analyse and critique, in fact you love it because you want to see the logical foundation for various beliefs and claims and help others do the same.

For you, finding a clear answer or conclusion will always be the most satisfying feat. Words like theoretical, objective and logical are you to a T! For you, clear theories and models are the best framework for learning about Jesus, understanding the Bible, and sharing your faith.

What are my key areas for growth?

Work hard at really listening to people and then reflecting back to them before sharing your opinion. In group discussions, sometimes try adopting a listening and question-asking posture before wading in with your thoughts and comments. This will enable you to hear others with greater clarity, challenge and accelerate your walk with God and others. Some of your ideas and revelations are to be treasured and not shared. Practise noting down moments of wisdom and insight you think might be God-given, and reflect on them prayerfully for your own learning and discipleship. Not all decisions are equal, give yourself and others time and grace to make the right ones. Some people you try to share Jesus with will take much longer get to know him than you first thought. Don't lose patience. Keep persevering. Again, a little more listening and observing will really increase your relational intelligence in evangelism. Take time to watch, listen, observe and pray before jumping in. Consider how Jesus picked his timing and didn't always feel the need to speak to the crowd, or get involved in situations.

Overall

Your strengths are sharpened by feedback, trial and error processes and clear guidelines. You are up for sharing Jesus with others, but it helps you to be given some strategies for mission that you can implement. You probably struggle with lengthy conversation, heavy theory and a lack of guidelines for how to put something into practice. You are interested in efficiency, detail and action – not only will you keep things running smoothly, but you will show more of Jesus’ love to those around you through the way you serve.
